Punctuality

Not to be confused with "punctuation".,;"!?  Punctuality is more than just being on time.  It's also about respect.  Whether it's a lunch date, or a business appointment, being on time speaks volumes about how important you think your appointment/date is, versus how important you think you are.

If you are the person who is always late...  Chronically late;  irretrievably, unconscionably, inconceivably late, you need to make Being On Time a priority.

Set your watch ahead 15 minutes if you need to.  Or just leave 15 minutes earlier than you think you need to.  See what happens!

If you know you won't be able to make the date/appointment/meeting/what-have-you, at least call your counterpart to let them know you won't be on time, so they are not stuck looking at their watch every five minutes, wondering if they got the date, time or place wrong.  They should not be penalized for being on time.  They should, actually, be rewarded!  So, as long as you're running late, stop off and pick up some chocolates for them!

Then, next time, when you're on time, you can get some chocolates for yourself too.

The News - Cliff's Notes Style

We love to pretend that our little Blogiday Golightly is really the news.  In honor of that kind of delusion, I've taken several headlines, from various "news-ish" websites, and saved you the trouble of wading through the unnecessarily long stories.

HOW YOU SABOTAGE YOUR OWN WEIGHT LOSS:

Eating too much and not exercising.  I can't believe that thousands of stories are still written about this.  And I still read all of them.

HEALTHIEST AND UNHEALTHIEST BALLPARK SNACKS:

Healthiest - the Luna bar you brought in your purse.  Unhealthiest - anything being sold by the ballpark vendors.  No one goes to a ball game to eat healthy.

HOW TO GET THE BEST PRICES:

Avoid anything that doesn't have a "70% off" sticker.

QUESTIONS TO ASK BEFORE BUYING A CAR:

"Can I just have this for free?"

Plan Ahead For Mother's Day - You and Mom!

Mother-Daughter May Escapes at Two Caribbean Properties

- Mother's Day Packages Feature Mother-Daughter Spa Experiences at St.
James's Club & Villas and The Verandah Resort & Spa in Antigua

-Here's a Mother's Day gift hat won't soon be forgotten: a Mother-Daughter Caribbean spa escape.

Recognizing the need for mothers and daughters to spend quality time
together away from the distractions of everyday life, the award-winning
Caribbean hotel company Elite Island Resorts has designed Mother's Day
packages for mothers and daughters 18 and up at two upscale all-inclusive,
oceanfront resorts. The five-night, all-inclusive packages, which include
special spa treatments are available from May 4 through May 31, 2008; the
price per person is $1,400 at St. James's Club & Villas; $1,265 at The
Verandah Resort and Spa.

The mother-daughter relationship is very important -- and what better
time to focus on that bond than on Mother's Day. Giving mothers and
daughters some time to be pampered together and to nourish their
relationship can benefit the whole family. Caring service and relaxing,
natural settings make our resorts ideal for a mother-daughter retreat,"
said Steven E. Heydt, Elite Island Resorts, president.

St. James's Club & Villas, tucked away on a secluded 100-acre peninsula
on the southeastern coast of Antigua, exudes a casual, club-like ambience.
Accommodations offer sweeping water views and ample privacy amid the palm
trees and lush greenery. The Mother's Day package here includes a premium
room, a soothing one-hour mother-daughter Aromatherapy massage, and an
additional option of a manicure, pedicure or facial for each along with two
resort gift robes.

The Verandah Resort & Spa on Antigua, an eco-friendly luxury retreat
adjacent to a national park, is situated on 30 spectacular waterfront acres
along the pristine northeast coast of Antigua. Villa-style suites feature
the resort's glorious namesake verandahs with incredible ocean views and
indulgent touches such as flat-screen TVs, king-size beds, Internet access,
and oversized soaking bathtubs. The Mother's Day package here provides a
water view room, and an 80-minute decadent, anti-aging Caviar and Pearl
Facial for mother and daughter plus two resort gift robes.

Elite Island Resorts' all-inclusive packages include food, top shelf
beverages, non-motorized water sports and activities, room, tax and
gratuity. Spa gratuity is excluded.

For reservations, call (800) 345-0356 or visit http://www.eliteislands.com.

Channing Tatum Is Here To Start Your Weekend Off Right

Channing Tatum is one of our borderline-jailbait crushes, and his new movie "Stop Loss" opens this weekend.  We should probably feel a little dirtier than we do, about our lust for him, but if you've seen the movie "Step Up", you'll totally agree with us.

If you haven't seen it, put it in your Netflix queue.  He dances, takes his shirt off, and delivers many delicious brooding stares.  Is there a plot?  Erm...probably?

Is that important?

HAPPY FRIDAY FROM THE GOLIGHTLY GIRLS!

Mountain Out Of A Vogue-Hill?

I am not sure what to think of this.  A controversy has erupted around the cover of Vogue's April 2008 issue, which features NBA all-star LeBron James, and ridiculously lithe supermodel, Gisele Bundchen.

I wasn't sure which headline was supposed to relate to the cover, at first glance...

"You are (not) what you eat"?  With his open mouth, it does look like LeBron is possibly ready to eat Gisele, although she is realistically the more hungry of the two...

Or

"Perfect Fit:  Dressing For Every Shape..."?  As in: If you are a buff athelete, you should not try to wear a silky gown, and if you are a model, don't wear boring black shorts and tank...

The April 2008 cover of Vogue looks like this:

Is your first thought "King Kong"?  Mine wasn't either.  Mine was "Gisele looks like an overly eager basketball groupie, who ran out onto the court to get a photo with LeBron, who was in the middle of a full-court press".

An Art History professor at Marymount Manhattan College disagreed with me:

“Here you have an image of a black male athlete in an exceptionally aggressive stance, wide footed, bending over, clutching her with his arm,” said Jason Rosenfeld... “It’s one thing to have an athlete in that kind of pose and with that kind of expression on a court after he or she has done something miraculous. It’s another thing to couple it with someone who is of an entirely different ilk and gender. That turns it into a racially charged image.”

Hmmmm.  I don't know, but let's see what the accompanying story is.

But it turns out the cover is related to:

"Shape Issue:  ...World's Top Models & Star Athletes".  This is what worries me the most.  Now, I haven't yet looked at the issue (it should be in my mailbox today), but generally speaking, models are not the MODELS of health (oh - clutching stomach - hilarious pun!), and their "best bodies" are the result of starvation diets, laxatives or controlled substance abuse.  Don't freak out, I said "generally speaking".  I'm sure there are a few who exercise and eat right.

The interpretation of any photo is in the eye of the beholder.  Vogue had this to say, in response to Jason Rosenfeld's claims:

“It’s so exhausting that every time people see an image of a black person they work themselves into a tizzy that somehow it doesn’t adhere to the way in which they think a black person should be presented,”...

“Needless to say, the intention from the beginning was only to depict LeBron and Gisele as superstars at the top of their game,” Vogue spokesperson Patrick O’Connell said. “The point about the entire issue is that it celebrates diversity. And I think that people need to look at the entire issue.”

Vogue is typically cutting edge, and I think they could have really stepped the whole "celebrating diversity" thing up a bit, by having LeBron and Gisele wearing the same dress.

Wear-It-To-Travel Wednesday - Chloe Sevigny

We have designated Wednesdays "Wear-It-To-Travel Wednesday", where we select a celebrity airport photo, and discuss whether or not we could (or should) actually travel in the outfit. Subject will be graded. Probably not on the curve.

First things first - where is Chloe's assistant? She is not even in the airport yet, and is still schlepping far too many bags all by herself. She has apparently also borrowed a "carry on" bag from our friend Sally's collection.

(Ed. note: inside jokes are only fun for insiders: Sally was forced to use a shopping bag as her carry-on, due to EasyJet's ridiculous luggage weight restrictions, and the fact that she purchased 4 new pairs of shoes before the flight)

I want her to pull her hair into one of those chic buns/chignons I've seen her wear. This look is too messy, and I know she can pull off the chignon thing. I've seen her do "chic" before.

I'm puzzled by the ribbed socks & pumps thing. Functional? Yessss - kind of. She knows she'll have to remove her shoes when going through the detector, and doesn't want to contract some sort of airport-floor foot fungus. But why pumps? She is clearly going for a comfy look here - slouchy sweater and jeans - and the pumps, unless they are Easy Spirit (please, God, no), do not appear to be comfortable.

I love the scarf. Gorgeous colors, and matches the ribbed socks nicely...

Oh, I just don't know. Chloe is known for her controversial/quirky fashion sense, and I've seen her look a lot worse.
