Golightly Girls from the UK

Posh moved here for the shopping! Feeling your pounds sterling stretched to their limits in the UK? Double your fun (and your drinking and your eating and your shopping) with a jaunt across the pond, and take advantage of the British pound/US dollar exchange rate. Seriously. Who knows how long it will last?!

taylor kitsch

File under: "Reasons to stay home on Friday nights".  Taylor Kitsch stars in that Texas football show "Friday Night Lights", and we've already called in sick for our Friday night plans.

david boreanaz

We drooled over David Boreanaz as Angel in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", and yes also watched his spinoff "Angel".  He is currently starring in "Bones", which actually looks like a really good show, although we haven't seen it yet.

Noah!  Why didn't you write me? Why? It wasn't over for me, I waited for you for seven years! But now it's too late.

zac efron

That's right, Zac Efron.  We challenge you to defy his newly-acceptable hotness!  He turned 21 recently, so he is absolutely fair game. That may seem scary to some, but it IS Halloween after all.

Wear-It-To-Travel Wednesday:  Wear-It-To-Travel Wednesday - Madonna

Madonna

Madonna is an icon.  Her career has spanned 3 decades, thus far, and her style is ever-changing.  She's gone from the Material Girl phase to the Dominatrix phase to the Cowgirl phase to the Retro-70s phase.

jeremy piven

Ahhh Jeremy Piven.  He's kind of the Thinking Girls' babe.  We're Thinking Girls.  And we're thinking that even if you've never seen him as uber-arrogant agent Ari Gold on "Entourage", you will remember him as a John Cusack-sidekick in a whole bunch of stuff, or as the Dean from "Old School".

Blogiday Golightly:  Recycle Your Wedding! Kind Of.

Okay, raise your hand if you're married.  Now, keep your hand up if you have wedding accoutrement that you will (fingers crossed) never use again.  And keep your hand up if you feel you spent a king's ransom on said accoutrement, and would love some way to get a bit of that expense back, and potentially help out a new bride-to-be.

bradley cooper

After his ladies-man/lothario role on "Kitchen Confidential", and his turn as an egomaniacal, hot-headed jerk in "Wedding Crashers", I'm praying Bradley Cooper has not been typecast.  I still prefer to remember him as the loyal, lovesick Will Tippin from "Alias", where I would be yelling at the television screen for Sydney to wake up and smell the Vaughn-betrayal!

josh hartnett

Has everyone had the pleasure of viewing the new Armani Diamonds for Men ads with Josh Hartnett?  I can't even name a film he's done recently, but who cares!  And kudos to Armani for bringing Josh to the small screen, in between episodes of whatever nonsense I'm watching on TV.

Wear-It-To-Travel Wednesday:  Wear-It-To-Travel Wednesday - Rihanna

rihanna

It's officially October, and what better way to usher in Fall than by featuring a cozily-cloaked songbird in our Wear-It-To-Travel Wednesday category!  Although it would have been slightly funnier had the songbird been cloaked in feathers, but we'll work with this...

Austin Music Getaway

austin.jpg

You know how you've heard the cool kids ramble on about South by Southwest (SXSW), or Austin City Limits?  Well, lucky for you, the Austin music scene is "on" pretty much all the time.

If you want to reconnect with your inner college kid - you know, the one who knew all the bands, and used to dance in front of the stage without her top on...oh wait, nevermind.  That's not what we meant.  What we mean is, Austin has much to offer in the way of live music, and you might just want to grab a longneck beer and dance in front of the stage.  Preferably with your top on.

Austin Spa Getaway

spa.jpg

Austin, Texas is located almost smack-dab in the middle of Texas, and is surrounded by beautiful hill country.  Even the phrase "hill country" is relaxing, so you're one step closer to total and utter relaxation, which is what you'll find in our spa weekend.

Boulder Active Getaway

boulder1.jpg

As much as we love to shop and lunch and shop and drink and shop...we also love a great, outdoorsy, active weekend.  You know, the kind where you're up at the crack of dawn (or closer to 8:30am), and out the door, on a mountain bike, soaking up the sunshine and mountain scenery.  Then, after an exhilarating/exhausting day of exercise, you can collapse into the hot tub and have someone serve you an ice cold beer?

That's what the Boulder Getaway is about.

Chicago Cuisine Getaway

Have you been firmly sticking to your diet/workout plan, and feel like you really deserve a good splurgey weekend?

If you answered "not really", you should probably ask yourself again.

Martha's Vineyard Getaway

vineyard.jpg

While a bit of a challenge to get to, Martha's Vineyard is relaxation personified once you arrive, and it is more than worth the trip.  The terms "quaint" and "charming" were coined, specifically, for places like "The Vineyard", as the kids call it.

O'ahu North Shore Getaway

oahu.jpg

Sand and warm breezes and surf and more warm breezes, and sunshine and surfers and...sorry, what were you saying?

You and your girlfriends need a gorgeous, tropical destination with the distinct possibility of running into the cast of "Lost", or just getting lost yourselves, in a Mai Tai or Lava Flow?   The North Shore of O'ahu, Hawaii should be at the top of your list.

Portland Beauty Getaway

portland

We all need to indulge ourselves now and again (and again and again), and indulging in a beauty weekend is almost over-indulgent.  We said almost.  We recommend Portland, Oregon for a beauty weekend for several reasons.

San Francisco Getaway

sanfran.jpg

Oh how we adore the City by the Bay!  Those hilly streets, those clanky cable cars, and Ghiradelli's chocolates.  San Francisco is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and offers almost TOO much to do.  World class cuisine, avant garde museums, funky neighborhoods, and get to Alcatraz while you still can (they're considering doing away with the historical landmark).

Scottsdale Shopping Getaway

scottsdale.jpg

Recession-schmecession.  See how easy that is to say?  You've been carefully saving those pennies, and isn't it time to let loose - at least a teensy bit - and contribute to the economy?  Or just contribute to your shoe collection?  And in a sunny, warm place, where you can take frequent shopping breaks by sitting at an outdoor cafe and refueling.  With wine.

Seattle Cuisine Getaway

steelhead.JPG

Seattle's weather is typically rainy, which can hinder most outdoor activities.  Thankfully, there's eating, which is primarily an indoor activity!  And what Seattle lacks in Vitamin D, it makes up for in Vitamin Great Food.  If that is not an actual vitamin, it really should be.

Seriously, when George Costanza proclaimed "Seattle is the pesto of cities", the food connotation was no accident.  Seattle is a woefully underrated food-destination, which means you can be all "cutting edge" by scouting it out first.

Vail Ski Getaway

vail

Take a deep breath.  Then wait a few moments before you try to exert yourself.  Unless you're living at elevation, Vail will take a few hours to adjust to.  The picturesque ski town sits at 8120.  But the adjusting is absolutely worth it, as Vail is an unbelievable ski destination.

Walla Walla Winery Getaway

winery

You should go if, for no other reason, than to be able to say "We're going on a Walla Walla winery weekend!"  "Walla Walla" is just plain fun to say.  It's also just plain fun.

Be forewarned, if you are not a fan of wineries, this is definitely not the destination for you.  Walla Walla is a small, charming, sleepy town.  Small, charming and sleepy is precisely what you want after a long day of wine-tasting.  The number of wineries is dizzying, and you'll be dizzy enough from all the wine.
